News from the Summit

Friday, May 2, 2003
With attendance over 850, day 2 of the 2003 Summit began as participants were pleasantly surprised to be welcomed into the church with coffee and pastries served by our volunteers. The morning devotional, with a message by Richard Coleman, started at 9:00 a.m.; the day would go strong for the next 12 hours.

One participant, coming from a church that had no ethnic outreach ministry, said, "Now I know what I am supposed to." Many of us are going back to our home churches and ministries with that same conviction, a renewal of our sense of purpose.

--Rev. Erwin Raphael McManus, pastor of Mosaic in Los Angeles, brought us lots of laughter and lots of depth of thought on his topic, CREATING A GLOBAL MOSAIC

In Acts 6 he noted key words:

1. Mission. To become diverse you have to embrace the mission of Christ. The non-evangelistic church is destined to remain homogenous.

2. Need. They diversified because there was a need that couldn't be met unless they diversified.

3. Leadership. They gave a genuine leadership role to others. To be diversified you need to recognize other leadership gifts.

4. Edge, risk, pioneer. Liberate people. Don't create clones.
